Glass Mountain Rodeo’s “Pond King” is a character-driven album of joyful, occasionally manic, songs. It was written and performed by LA-based songwriter Cooper Kenward with contributions from Carly Bond and Rob Shelton of Meernaa. Kenward’s voice goes down like duck soup, then brings you in close and says, observe the strangeness of everyday life! A song like “Over Easy” may lean sentimental. Others like “Favorite Dudes” lean somewhere between bluesy folk rock. As playful as they may sometimes be, Kenward's lyrics have an indelible quality found only among the best truth-vomiters. You might think Warren Zevon, you might Silver Jews, or you might just think of Australia. Who knows? I don’t know what the hell you think. But just know, “Pond King” bears its maker’s soul and that means it will never, ever leave trash behind on your passenger seat.
